THE NEIGHBORHOOD ARCHIVE - All Things Mister Rogers | ||
Episode 1499Topic: Pets Mister Rogers returns with Bob Trow's dog, Barney, which he has been pet-sitting overnight. He talks about the time he and Barney spent together and reflects on a long walk they took. Bob Trow then arrives at the house to pick up his dog. Taking out a toy dog, Mister Rogers sings I'm Taking Care of You. In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, it's night time and Lady Aberlin is "platypus-sitting" for Ana while Dr. Bill and Elsie Jean go out. Ana sings a lullaby, All the Pretty Horses, as she prepares for bedtime and reveals that she would like to have a kitten as a pet. She also mentions an upcoming parade being planned for her birthday but asks if she can also have a small party with just Prince Tuesday and Daniel Tiger. At the Museum-Go-Round, Lady Elaine Fairchilde is placing orders for large animals -- whales and apes -- to be delivered for the upcoming parade. Meanwhile, Handyman Negri makes a late-night visit to Daniel's clock to find that Daniel is putting the final touches on a simpler truck he has made for Ana. He and Handyman Negri talk about how it's sometimes hard to ask for help. Daniel and Handyman Negri then sing It's Hard to Wait. Back at the house, Mister Rogers sings Waiting as he talks about how it's sometimes hard to wait for special occasions. NotesIt is nighttime in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe so we get a rare glimpse of the Neighborhood after dark. In addition, viewers also get an even rarer view of the inside of the Platypus mound. Heading into Make-Believe, Mister Rogers pauses to show viewers his tie which is decorated with small images of the Trolley.
A bit out of the norm, a character in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe spends some time talking directly to viewers. As Handyman Negri is away getting his guitar, Daniel Striped Tiger takes a minute to talk to viewers about waiting. This episode is included on the Would You Be Mine Collection (DVD).
