H. J. Elephant III is a resident of Westwood who occasionally visits the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. He and Tadpole Frogg are best friends.[1]

H.J. cannot read but is fluent in understanding sign language. Slightly skilled in boomerang magic, H.J. Elephant's magic words are “Oh me, oh my.”

According to a Neighborhood census, H.J. can whistle and his favorite color is pinkish-yellowish-brownish-orange.[2]

H.J. Elephant appears as the witch’s helper in the opera A Key to Otherland.

H.J. Elephant's Name and Background

H.J. Elephant is named after the late Senator H. John Heinz III -- a Pennsylvania representative and friend to Fred Rogers.
