Misterogers (CBC, 12/10/1963)
Network: Canadian Broadcasting Corporation
Air Date: December 10, 1963
Mister Rogers makes up a "doing kind of" song to the tune of the traditional children's tune If You're Happy and You Know It. The new song gives viewers silly instructions about touching various parts of their faces. He then shares a picture of the Neighborhood Trolley outside King Friday's castle which was drawn by a young viewer named Brian.
In the Neighborhood of Make-Believe, Lady Elaine Fairchilde tells Mr. Cloudhopper about her plans to present "Butterfly, Butterfly, What Can I Say" as a surprise for King Friday's upcoming birthday. She swears Mr. Cloudhopper to secrecy as he leaves for his appointment with the king.
At the castle, King Friday sings I'm Busy Being Busy before Mr. Cloudhopper demonstrates a dance for him. The dance reminds the king of a butterfly and Mr. Cloudhopper is asked to dance like a butterfly. This reminds him of the musical he once performed with Lady Elaine -- "Butterfly, Butterfly, What Can I Say." As Mr. Cloudhopper tries to distract King Friday, he climbs stairs of the bridge being constructed between the castle and the Neighborhood's new museum. King Friday declares, "I never cross bridges! The other half many not be built!"
Lady Elaine observes all of this from a distance and assumes that Mr. Cloudhopper has shared her secret.
Back at the house, Mister Rogers concludes by singing Tomorrow.
Notes
