Yo Yo LaBelle

First MRN Appearance: 1589
Last MRN Appearance: 1590
Performed By: Michael Horton

Yo Yo LaBelle is a visitor from the stars who visits the Neighborhood of Make-Believe. Landing at the Museum-Go-Round, Yo Yo speaks only two words -- "me" and "thee."[1] Only Daniel Striped Tiger is able to understand this strange language.[2]

After spending most of a night in Make-Believe, Yo Yo is sad to have to leave; but just before dawn, his transportation arrives and he is carried back to the stars.[3]

Yo Yo LaBelle's Name

The "LaBelle" portion of Yo Yo LaBelle's name is in recognition of Thomas LaBelle, a friend and swimming partner of Fred Rogers. According to Mr. LaBelle, he met Fred in 1985 and regularly joined him for noontime swims at the Pittsburgh Athletic Club. Fred later informed him that a new character had been named in his honor.

"Yo Yo" is a tribute to musician and Neighbohrood friend Yo Yo Ma.
